On holidays, many people gather on the banks of the Kamo River in the northern part of Kyoto City for a place of relaxation. People play in the river, kick a soccer ball, take a nap, and so on…each person spends his or her time relaxing in his or her own style.
Where the Kamo River and Kitaoji Street intersect… if you look above the riverbed, you will find another place where crowds gather during the daytime. There is…
Grill Hasegawa|A long-established Western-style restaurant that has won the Michelin Bib Gourmand award and is not to be missed when talking about hamburgers in Kyoto
Grill Hasegawa has been introduced on many food blogs and is a regular in the top rankings. Grill Hasegawa is a long-established Western-style restaurant that has been in business for over 50 years, and is also a Michelin Bib Gourmand certified restaurant. If you talk about hamburgers in Kyoto, you cannot miss this restaurant…it is so popular.
The inside of the restaurant is a retro space with an old European style, and there are enough table seats to accommodate nearly 50 customers in a rather spacious area. This is a place where you can sit back and relax while listening to classical music and enjoy coffee and food in a relaxed atmosphere.
Grill Hasegawa’s menu consists mainly of hamburgers, with a wide variety of accompaniments and sauces
As shown in the image below, Grill Hasegawa’s menu features hamburgers as its main dish, with a variety of sauces and accompaniments to create a diverse menu.
Of course, in addition to hamburgers, Grill Hasegawa also offers set menus such as fried chicken and croquette set menus, in addition to such staples as pork cutlets, omelettes, and steaks, allowing customers to enjoy a high level of Western cuisine even when they are feeling a bit sick of hamburgers.
Grill Hasegawa’s signature menu, A Set: Many people recommend the hamburger steak, which is packed with meat and has a nostalgic taste.
From such a wide variety of menu items, I ordered the A set of hamburger steak and fried shrimp, which is probably ordered by the most customers this time. What is the taste of the hamburger steak that has been recommended by many customers in the past?
A spherical hamburger steak that fits on one plate, one large fried shrimp, Neapolitan spaghetti, and fresh vegetable salad. The whole dish is quite large. This comes with rice and miso soup for the price of 1,500 yen. Click here for a picture…
First of all, let’s start with the hamburger steak…it is not a juice-drenched, trendy hamburger steak like Tokura‘s, but an honest hamburger steak with a firm, meaty texture. The hamburger is fluffy while retaining its elasticity, and the flavor of the meat is well preserved inside.
The tomato sauce on the hamburger also has just the right amount of acidity, bringing the meat flavor to the forefront while reminding one of the nostalgia of hamburgers at home.
The accompanying fried shrimp are large prawns that have been opened and deep-fried to a crisp. The breading is fine, and while its presence is modest, it remains easy to eat and crispy. Thanks to the bread crumbs, the plump texture of the shrimp can be felt in the foreground, and you will certainly feel satisfied that you have eaten fried shrimp.
The tartar sauce poured over the fried shrimp also has a mild impression, as does the tomato sauce on the hamburger. This makes the texture of the shrimp stand out. Overall, the dish does not have a strong impact, but everything is put together at a high level, and at the same time, it gives you a sense of nostalgia and 50 years of history.
Take-out lunches are also available! To get to Grill Hasegawa, walk 5 minutes from the nearest station, Kitaoji Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line.
Grill Hasegawa has a sales area where you can purchase take-out bento boxes and cutlet sandwiches. If you are in the neighborhood, it is ideal for souvenirs to take home, and on Saturdays and Sundays, it might be nice to buy a boxed lunch instead of going inside and have a leisurely lunch on the riverbank.
