In a quiet residential area in Suita, Hokusetsu, there is a popular large café named Garuru Coffee, which was established in March 2015, and has a total of 95 seats and a spacious interior. If it is such a convenient place, it is bound to become popular among locals…
I have been marking Garuru Coffee for some time, and one weekday when I had a day off from work, I decided to visit the store during lunch time. When I actually went to the store, I found that the atmosphere of Garuru Coffee was just like that of that locally famous store…
Looks just like Komeda Coffee Shop in both exterior and interior…this is what Garuru Coffee looks like…
When I visited Garuru Coffee, the first thing that struck me was the appearance of the store. The building was made of bricks. I thought to myself, “What if this is…?
When I entered the store, the “what if…” feeling became even stronger. Dark brown wood was used for the pillars and tables… The color scheme was slightly different, but the store was very similar to Komeda Coffee Shop, a famous coffee shop in Nagoya. If I had to say so, I would say that the color scheme makes the space a little more mature, but other than that, I have the impression that it is similar in every way to Komeda. Therefore, it is not a fashionable cafe, but rather a coffee shop that can be used for all kinds of purposes, such as coffee time while smoking, studying for students, or dining with small children.
On the other hand, what makes it different from Komeda is that it has terrace seating and pets are allowed…as you would expect from Hokusetsu! That’s what Hokusetsu is all about! Of course, large pets are not allowed, but small dogs as small as a toy poodle can enjoy the cafe time together. Pets allowed in cafes are rare, so if you want to spend an elegant weekend with your pet, this is the place to check out.
Rice Omelet with Thickened Eggs: A limited quantity food menu offered by Garuru Coffee, and when I actually tried it……
That aside, let me introduce the limited-quantity food menu item I ordered at Garuru Coffee this time, the “Rice Omelet with Thickened Eggs (priced at 1,450 yen including tax)”. Click here for the picture…
Plain omelette on top of chicken rice. When you cut the omelette, I bet you will see a thick egg ooze pouring out from inside. I have high expectations even before I eat it…
But when I actually cut the omelette, I found that the egg liquid inside had been heated through, and it was not as fluffy as I had imagined. Hmmm, what a pity. I hope it was just a coincidence that the omelet was heated too much this time, and I hope to see more of it in the future.
On the other hand, the chicken rice underneath was quite hearty. Probably about two bowls of rice were used. The rice was served in a tightly packed manner and was quite hard to feel when you put a spoon in it. The tomato sauce is not sticky, and the acidity of the tomatoes is light and light, but the rice is cooked hard, so you feel a certain amount of resistance when you put it in your mouth. There is also a substantial salad as an accompaniment, and I had the impression that the omelette rice was more satisfying than it looked….
Like this, the omelette rice we ate at Garuru Coffee this time was hard and satisfying, unlike what we expected. In that sense, the image is a little masculine. Not necessarily gutsy, but the texture of the chicken rice, in particular, seems macho. For my personal preference, I would prefer the chicken rice to be a bit softer in texture.
“Coffee” is in the name of the cafe, so you have to order it… From the coffee menu, this time I chose the Garuru Blend Coffee (iced). It was an iced coffee with a slightly diluted but bitter flavor, and it seemed to rinse out my mouth and refresh me after my meal.
Garuru Coffee offers a drink set on weekdays from 11:00 to 14:00, and you can get a discount on drinks if you order it with some of the lunch menu items. The regular price of this iced coffee is 500 yen including tax, but with the drink set, you can save 170 yen, or 330 yen. When you have lunch at Garuru Coffee, why not consider ordering this drink set together?

Another affiliate of Garuru Coffee is Garuru Ice, a shaved ice specialty store near Nakazaki-cho that serves shaved ice all year round. GARURU-HIO is also so popular that it was selected as one of the 2023 Sweets West 100 Best Restaurants in the “Tabeog” list. It is said that the waiting time for shaved ice can be up to 3 hours…even if it is in the middle of summer, it is still amazing. Well, I might dare to go in the middle of winter to shorten the waiting time…
