After finishing my morning errands in Shukugawa, I decided to take a break and stopped by a cafe called Yorkys Branch Shukugawa Head Shop. The pancakes at this cafe seem to be quite famous, and there is a long line of customers, mainly young women, in the Nishinomiya area.
I visited the cafe at around 10:45 a.m. one weekend. It was already past opening time, so I was prepared for a certain amount of wait time, but I was lucky that there were quite a few empty seats because it was not yet full-blown lunch time and I could easily enter the restaurant. Well…
A great location with a view of the church through the window… Yorkys Branch Shukugawa Head Shop is a restaurant like this…
Yorkys Branch Shukugawa Head Shop is located along the Yamate Trunk Line running east to west from the south exit of Hankyu Shukugawa Station. The restaurant is on the second floor of a building, but on the other side of the trunk line stands Shukugawa Catholic Church. If you can get a seat on the north window side, you are very lucky. Unfortunately, I was shown to a table at the back of the restaurant…
According to the Tabelog information, there are a total of 35 seats at Yorkys Brunch Shukugawa Head Shop. Although the space is not that spacious, there was a mother who brought her stroller, so I think this restaurant is friendly to customers with small children. However, this restaurant has a 90-minute service, so you cannot relax for a very long time. Well, if you are guaranteed a 90-minute stay in a cafe, I think it is enough time…
Pepetama Pasta: A very popular pasta dish that had a big impact on me in Fukuoka, at Yorkys Branch Shukugawa Head Shop
This time I ordered Pepetama Pasta from the lunch menu at Yorkys Branch Shukugawa Head Shop. I had been planning to order pancakes, but the Pepetama I had had at Rarukii in Fukuoka before was so shocking that I decided to switch without hesitation, thinking “I want to have that shock again…”
I waited for about 30 minutes after ordering, but when the Pepetama Pasta arrived in front of me, it looked like this …
The price was 1100 yen (tax not included) with a piece of walnut bread. The pasta is covered with so much sauce that it buries the pasta, and you will be able to fully enjoy it until the last step of using the bread to collect the sauce.
The pasta is quite thin and cooked just a little softer than al dente. The sauce is different from Rarukii’s Pepetama sauce in that the egg is evenly stretched out.
The egg sauce, which has been heated just enough to thicken, is well mixed with the pasta. The sauce spreads on the tongue, filling the mouth with the richness of the egg. The sauce is a little salty, and while it is generally mild, it also has a sharp aspect. On the other hand, the garlic flavor was subdued, and there was not much of a peperoncino-like quality to it.
After finishing the pasta, the remaining sauce was collected using a walnut bread. Finally, I used a spoon to collect all of the sauce. For my personal taste, I would have liked a little more garlic… but overall, the pasta is well put together and easy to eat. The price is reasonable, and it would be nice to be able to eat it before meeting someone without worrying about the smell.
【Bonus】The bonus this time is the pancake, a specialty of Yorkys Brunch Shukugawa Head Shop. You can order them as mini pancakes in the form of one add-on to the lunch menu (price 400 yen + tax).
It is obvious at first glance that these pancakes are quite fluffy. But when I put them in my mouth, they were not as airy as the pancakes I had previously eaten at Doremo LeTao in Hokkaido, but rather rather firm. One pancake was enough to satisfy me as a dessert, so if you order three pancakes from the regular menu, you will probably be quite full by itself.
Brunch is available on weekends and holidays only… To get to Yorkys Brunch Shukugawa Head Shop, a 5-minute walk from the nearest station, Shukugawa Station on the Hankyu Kobe Line.
Yorkys Brunch Shukugawa Head Shop is open for brunch on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays from 10:00 a.m. Here is the brunch menu that can be ordered from 10:00 a.m….
Mostly burgers, pancakes, eggs benedict, etc. It wasn’t crowded at this time of day, and it’s a very nice environment for a leisurely meal that includes lunch. If you are ever in the neighborhood, please stop by.
