Gyoza no Ohsho Shijo Omiya Branch

The first Gyoza no Ohsho restaurant, one of the leading Chinese restaurant chains in Japan, is located in Shijo-Omiya, Kyoto. It has been 58 years since its establishment on December 24, 1967, and as of March 31, 2025, the company had opened a total of 728 stores (including 2 overseas stores), an astonishingly large number. I am sure that everyone who has a connection to Kyoto would be proud of its existence.

As one of the people connected to Kyoto, I felt that I had to visit this restaurant, so one weekend night I went to Gyoza no Ohsho Shijo Omiya Branch. This restaurant has a kind of aura that other branches don’t have…

A large-capacity restaurant with over 100 seats in total, but very crowded…Gyoza no Ohsho Shijo Omiya Branch is a restaurant like this…

Gyoza no Ohsho Shijo Omiya Branch is located a short walk from the Shijo Omiya intersection toward Nijo Station, in a four-story building that is used from the first to third floors as a restaurant. The total number of seats is 105 (according to official information), which is more than enough to accommodate a large number of customers. As one would expect from the headquarter of one of the nation’s leading chain restaurants, this is an overwhelming scale that cannot be seen in any other local Chinese restaurant.

The restaurant was packed to capacity, and when I arrived at the restaurant after 7:00 p.m., there was a huge crowd inside and outside waiting for the waiter to give them directions. I wonder how many people were waiting? It took a little over 20 minutes until I was called in and shown to my seat. The location of this first restaurant is probably exquisite. It is a major transportation hub, but it is also adjacent to an area where many families live, and there is a constant flow of customers, both eat-in and take-out… This restaurant is something different from ordinary restaurants.

When coming to the first restaurant, we must order gyoza… At Gyoza no Ohsho Shijo Omiya Branch, I ordered the gyoza set meal, which is a steel plate.

Well, this time, I decided to order Gyoza Set Meal easily, because I thought “I have to order Gyoza because I came to the first Gyoza restaurant…”. However, I couldn’t resist the temptation of garlic, so I changed from the default gyoza to the gyoza with a lot more garlic, and the price was 810 + 80 yen (excluding tax)…

After about 15 minutes of waiting, the gyoza set meal (with the garlic-enhanced gyoza) arrived in front of me. The price for 12 gyoza, rice, and soup is a good deal for the average person! I feel that Gyoza no Ohsho is a great friend of the general public! I honestly don’t remember the last time I waited 15 minutes for my order at Gyoza Ousho… I guess that’s how many customers there are in the restaurant.

Let’s try the first store’s gyoza… The skin is moderately thick and chunky. The skin is just lightly browned, but when putting it in the mouth, the crispiness is the best in my past visits to the Gyoza no Ohsho! It was probably just a coincidence, but I’d like to think that the grilling condition was just as good as at the first restaurant.I would like to think so.

The garlic flavor that spreads in the mouth is unbelievable. The impact of the garlic flavor in the mouth is beyond the deep-fried gyoza of Ebisugawa Gyoza Nakajima. But it is not too strong, and can be eaten easily. Oh, no, I feel like drinking beer…

(There were five kinds of condiments on the table: salt, pepper, vinegar, soy sauce, and raayu.)I easily finished the gyoza set meal at Gyoza no Ohsho Shijo Omiya Branch like this and paid the bill. The price tag is so reasonable that the change will be returned in a 1,000 yen bill, especially in this day and age… Of course, it’s worth going back to eat again. I mean, you don’t have to go all the way to the first restaurant, you can repeat as many times as you like at the nearby Gyoza no Ohsho…

Gyoza no Ohsho Shijo Omiya Branch is open until 24:00 midnight, the day after the date changes (note: last order is 30 minutes before closing). This is also very much appreciated. When missing out on dinner or after a night of drinking…and you can even take it home. With all the services they offer, it’s no wonder their popularity hasn’t waned….
