Until now, the main and branch stores of handmade hamburger steak restaurant and Tokura have been located rather far from the center of Kyoto City. Both were somewhat inconvenient to access and a bit difficult to get to, but with the opening of a new branch in Sanjo Takakura in August 2018 as the third branch, the threshold for wanting to try Tokura’s gravy hamburger steak has been lowered dramatically.
What I ordered at this Kyoto Sanjo branch was a mentaiko mayonnaise hamburger steak (300 g / 1,150 yen), which is very popular among women….
A classic collaboration of mentaiko and mayonnaise. The spiciness of mentaiko is combined with the creaminess of mayonnaise, and the acidity of lemon is added to the spiciness to create a refreshing and full-bodied sauce. The taste of the sauce is one thing, but the pink color that looks so different on the hamburger steak is probably another reason why it is so popular with women.
The gravy show is still there when you put your chopsticks into the meat. The juices overflowing from the slice of meat and the mentaiko mayo sauce are thoroughly mixed together. As the juices mix with the sauce, the sour sauce gently changes to a mild taste. Please enjoy the change of taste by mixing the sauce and gravy, which is the highlight of Tokura’s hamburgers.
The threshold to gravy hamburgers has been lowered dramatically! To get to Handmade Hamburger Restaurant Tokura Kyoto Sanjo Branch, the nearest station is Karasuma-Oike Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Line, a 5-minute walk away!
