Yakiniku Hormone Sora Tsuruhashi Main Store was founded in March 1981 in a small 3.5-tsubo (approx. 11.5 sq ft) space near Tsuruhashi Station, boasting a 44-year history to date. Over time, it gradually expanded into neighboring and opposite buildings. Today, it uniquely operates as a single establishment encompassing four locations. According to Tabelog, the combined seating capacity for all four shops is probably around 120 seats. Even though I visited on a weekday just before noon, it was quite busy, with the first two shops already filled with customers. Now, Yakiniku Hormone Sora seems to be the first shop in Tsuruhashi to start counter-style yakiniku. So, no need to hesitate about dining alone! Whether you go all out eating solo or just grab a quick bite, you won’t get any weird looks. Oh, and of course, there are table seats too, so it’s fine to visit in a group as long as it’s not too large. Alright, let me introduce the 5-Variety Hormone Platter Set (price: ¥2,300 tax included) I ordered that day at Yakiniku Hormone Sora Tsuruhashi Main Store. After waiting about 7-8 minutes after ordering, the set arrived looking like this…

The five types of hormone came mixed together. Choose between salt or sauce seasoning; I went with sauce this time.

The offal in this set includes: small intestine (hosho), heart (shinzou), lung (puppugi), honeycomb tripe (hachinosu), and grilled omasum (yakusenmai). Yakiniku Hormone Sora keeps individual portions on the lighter side, but each type had about 4-5 pieces, giving it a decent volume. The marinade is basically sweet with just a hint of kimchi flavor. The grilling sauce in the small dish was also sweet, this one with a sesame flavor.

Actually, this was my first time eating puppugi. Before grilling, it looked fluffy like lungs should, but when cooked thoroughly, it had that unique chewy, springy texture of offal, which was interesting. It didn’t have a strong flavor, and I definitely felt it was the perfect offal for beginners. Also, my personal favorite this time was the honeycomb tripe. It was incredibly fluffy, giving me the feeling of eating marshmallows. Ordering these five types individually would cost 2600 yen, so the set saves you 300 yen. Whether you’re a guts lover or not, I think ordering this set with a “Let’s start with beer!” kind of feeling is totally worth it.

However, the Dotonbori Branch has limited operating days and seems to be open only at night (as of December 2025, open only Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays). .
