One weekday morning, on my way to Kobe Airport, I stopped by a place called Green House Wald in Sannomiya for breakfast. I had just learned about this place when I had lunch at its sister restaurant, Green House Silva, the other day, and made a mental note to try it as a breakfast spot in Sannomiya. It’s one of the few breakfast spots in Sannomiya. So, what was it actually like? Well…
More like a bar than a cafe… This is what Green House Wald is like.
Green House Wald is located along Flower Road, which runs north-south next to JR Sannomiya Station. Since it’s along a main road, it’s impossible to have the same “cafe in the forest” atmosphere as Green House Silva, but there are many plants decorating the outside of the cafe, showing that this cafe also places a strong emphasis on “greenery”. However, the atmosphere inside the cafe was more like a European bar. The walls were mostly black, with accents of wine red here and there… Plants were also placed inside the cafe, and together with the exterior, it truly lived up to its name, “Green House.” However, rather than feeling like a natural cafe, it had a bewitching atmosphere.
Now, Green House Wald has four floors, and according to Tabelog, it seems to have a total of 180 seats. It’s an unusually large cafe. These 180 seats are divided across four floors, so it seems convenient to use for parties where you can reserve an entire floor. It’s just a short walk from Sannomiya Station, so it would be perfect for wedding after-parties, wouldn’t it?
It’s quite expensive for a breakfast set, but… How was the MORNING curry at Green House Wald when I tried it?
Let me introduce the MORNING curry I ordered at Green House Wald that day. After waiting about 15 minutes after ordering, the curry that was brought to me looked like this…

The curry and salad were served on a wooden plate, which looked quite impressive. However, even considering that it was breakfast, the portion size was very small. The iron pot in the picture was only slightly larger than my palm. Even for a woman, this amount would probably seem small. This MORNING curry costs 1,600 yen including tax, which is quite expensive for a breakfast set. Hmm, honestly, it’s a bit underwhelming…

Now, the taste I’m curious about… This curry looks like a European-style curry, but when I put it in my mouth, it’s full of chunks of ground meat, making it closer to a keema curry. The spiciness is just a tiny bit. I don’t think it reaches medium-spicy, but the herbal freshness comes through quite strongly. It’s a curry with a mature flavor, and this is my first time trying something like this. It’s not a curry that wakes you up with a bang of spices, but rather one that gently rouses your sleepy brain with the aroma of herbs.

Still, I wish there was a little more quantity. I think ¥1,600 is a bit much for this, but if you order the Green House Wald morning menu, including this MORNING curry, you get free access to the drink bar for two hours. So, I guess the higher price is half for the food and half for the two hours of free drinks. Rather than going there to eat a hearty breakfast, I think it’s better to go with the intention of having a light morning meal and then continuing to enjoy cafe time.
Other Green House Wald Morning Menu Items (6:30-11:00, prices include tax)
- Waldberry Bowl: ¥2,400
- Morimoto’s Special Red Salad: ¥2,400
- Avocado Picnic Sandwich: ¥2,300
- Greer Smoothie Bowl: ¥2,200
- Chiffon Cake with Forest Fruits: ¥1,600
After lunchtime, the menu focuses on Italian dishes such as pizza and pasta… Green House Wald is a 3-minute walk from the nearest station, JR Sannomiya Station (Hankyu Railway Kobe Sannomiya Station).
At Green House Wald, the menu after lunchtime focuses on Italian dishes such as pizza and pasta. However, judging from the official website, the menu is different from that of its sister restaurant, Green House Silva. So, it’s a good idea to choose which restaurant to visit based on what you want to eat. Both restaurants are easy to use as Italian restaurants, so if you’re in the mood for Italian food in Sannomiya, please visit one of them.
