A soothing forest cafe right in the heart of Kobe Sannomiya… At first glance, you might wonder, “Is there really such a place?” But it definitely exists. Green House Silva is a cafe restaurant launched in 2007 by a former architect. As you walk toward the cafe, trees growing thickly between the buildings suddenly appear. What kind of cafe is this mysterious place hidden by trees? I decided to sneak in for lunch…
It feels a bit like a Ghibli movie… Green House Silva is a cafe like this…
Green House Silva is located a little way east of Flower Road, which stretches from Kobe Sannomiya Station towards Shin-Kobe Station. The shop entrance is set back a little from the alleyway, and personally, I felt it had a bit of a Ghibli movie vibe, with the building emerging from among the lush trees. I visited the shop around 11:40 on a weekend, and there were about five people waiting outside. Luckily, I was able to get in after a relatively short wait of about 10 minutes.
The dining area occupies the third floor of the slightly aged building. According to Tabelog, the restaurant has a total of 76 seats. The interior is somewhat dimly lit, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of being surrounded by a forest. The space between seats is generously spaced, allowing you to relax without feeling self-conscious about other patrons. There were quite a few families with children, suggesting it’s a versatile spot suitable for various occasions.
I thought, “Hmm, ordering Japanese food at an Italian restaurant is a bit strange…” but how was the actual experience of trying Green House Silva’s weekly special plate lunch?
Let me introduce the limited-quantity weekly special lunch I ordered at Green House Silva that day. There are two types of weekly special lunches: “plate lunch” and “pasta lunch,” both priced at 1,400 yen. I chose the plate lunch, “Chicken Thigh with Sesame Soy Sauce.” After ordering, I thought, “Hmm, maybe I shouldn’t have ordered Japanese food at an Italian restaurant…” but there was nothing I could do about it now.

A few minutes after ordering, a cup of soup was brought to my table. It was a slightly spicy vermicelli soup.
I finished the cup of soup and waited about 10 minutes…

The main dish, “Sesame Soy Sauce Grilled Chicken Thigh,” and rice arrived at my table. My first impression was, “Wow, this is more substantial than I expected…” The fresh vegetable salad was also quite generous, which helped ease the guilt a bit when digging into the meat.

Now, let’s dig in… The chicken thigh was cut into bite-sized pieces like this, making it easy to eat for women and children. The meat was thoroughly cooked through with a slightly firm texture. The soy sauce flavor was a bit on the strong side, but when adding the topping of white sesame seeds and green onions, the saltiness was nicely balanced. To be honest, there wasn’t anything particularly novel about it, so I thought, “Maybe I should have gone with the pasta after all…” However, I think it’s decent value for money. There were many families with children, and I think it’s a good restaurant to keep in mind as a place where you can eat comfortably no matter the circumstances.ます。
There’s also an affiliated shop called Green House Wald nearby that serves breakfast… Green House Silva is a 2-minute walk from the nearest station, Sannomiya Station on the JR Kobe Line.
Right near Green House Silva is an affiliated shop called Green House Wald. This shop opens at 6:30 in the morning, making it a valuable spot around Sannomiya Station where you can get breakfast. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the station, so it’s convenient to use before commuting. The atmosphere and menu are different, so be sure to check it out too.
