In the Kamishinjo area of the Hankyu Line, which is becoming a new ramen battleground in Osaka, there is a popular Toripaitan (chicken white soup) ramen restaurant called Ramen Shop Akagi. There used to be a second branch of Asahikawa Ramen’s famous restaurant, Tokkari, at this location, and it was established in October 2017, taking over the location. The owner is from Menya Teru, which is famous for having produced many popular ramen chefs to date, so you could say that he is as good as guaranteed about the taste without having to eat it.
I went to Kamishinjo the other day to see what the popular Toripaitan ramen at Ramen Shop Akagi was like. I walked toward the restaurant, thinking to myself, “Come to think of it, when was the last time I went there to eat Toripaitan ramen?” As I walked toward the restaurant, thinking to myself…
Already installed a ticket vending machine that supports new bills! Ramen Shop Akagi is like this
I arrived at Ramen Shop Akagi at 7:30 p.m. on a weekend night, when there was a short line of seven customers waiting in front of the storefront. The wait time from this point until I entered the restaurant was about 15 minutes. Well, the turnover of customers is about average for a ramen restaurant.
At Ramen Shop Akagi, before waiting in line, customers purchase meal tickets from a ticket vending machine inside the restaurant. Apparently, the machine is already compatible with the new bills issued in 2024, which is great because they work so fast. Inside the white painted wood-based restaurant, there are eight L-shaped counters. The building itself looks old, but the interior is bright and clean, and the water is served with lemon slices, which I thought would be popular with single female customers.
Special Toripaitan Soy Sauce: I tried the highly acclaimed Toripaitan Ramen at Ramen Shop Akagi’s top-of-the-line menu!
This time I ordered the Special Toripaitan Soy Sauce ramen (priced at 1,200 yen including tax) at Ramen Shop Akagi. This Toripaitan has a salt flavor as well as a soy sauce flavor, but after a little hesitation, I chose the soy sauce flavor on the left side of the ticket vending machine.
After about 10 minutes of waiting, the Special Toripaitan Soy Sauce arrived in front of me…
The soup is very bubbly, and the bubbles are coming up from the gaps between the chashu pork. It was stirred in a blender for quite a long time before the boiled noodles were thrown in. Nowadays, espuma-type soups are not that rare, but I think this restaurant probably has the longest time for stirring soup among all the restaurants I have visited…
Let’s start with the soup… It is a thick, rich chicken soup that is so thick that it sticks to your tongue, but it does not have a strong flavor, and the consistency is just right for my taste. It is well-balanced with the soy sauce sauce, so much so that the umami of the soy sauce is felt more in the foreground. In addition, the bubbles in the soup gently coat the tongue, giving it a mellow feel that is one step higher… It is very mellow without any sharp edges, and does not give me heartburn at all even if I finish it off.
The noodles are straight, medium-thin noodles with a strong wheat texture. They are covered with bubbling broth, leaving a fluffy feeling on the lips, and when chewed, they have a good firmness that releases a pleasant stimulation to the brain.
And as for the chashu pork, a treat, there are six thinly sliced pork rare chashu and…
There were two pieces of moist and thick chicken breast chashu. The thinly sliced pork chashu is sprinkled with coarsely ground black pepper, which gives it a savory flavor when eaten as is, and a juicy, rich chicken flavor when dipped into the broth. However, this ramen is a Toripaitan noodle soup, and I would be more pleased if they would unify their ramen with chicken breast char siu. Also, looking at other people’s orders, it seems that the standard Toripaitan ramen comes with two pieces each of pork and chicken char siu pork, so it seems that you can fully enjoy the char siu pork without the extra 250 yen to upgrade to the special version.
The overall impression of Ramen Shop Akagi‘s top-quality ramen like this, Special Toripaitan Soy Sauce, was very sophisticated, and it is understandable that it is popular with the ladies. Of course, it is delicious enough as it is, but the yuzu kosho (yuzu citrus pepper) provided on the table was a perfect match. The aroma of yuzu in this chicken white soup is very nice. But be careful not to add too much because it makes the soup too spicy…

The affiliated ramen shop, Homemade Noodle Tsukiomi, is also very popular… Access to Ramen Shop Akagi is a 6-minute walk from Kamishinjo Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line, the nearest station.
Ramen Shop Akagi, like this one, also operates an affiliated restaurant, Homemade Noodle Tsukiomi, about a 10-minute walk from the restaurant. Unlike the main store, this store specializes in seafood tonkotsu-based tsukemen (dipping noodles) and mazemen (mixed noodles), and it too has become so popular that it was awarded the “Ramen West 100 Best Restaurants” in the “Tabelog”.
