“Fukiage no Mori Rokko” is located in a quiet residential area a little outside of Sannomiya, Kobe. This stylish cafe opened in December 2017 as the second branch of Fukiage no Mori in Sanda, a cafe popular among Instagram-girls, and is also quite popular among local madams and students due to its location.
I remembered the existence of this café when I used Hankyu Rokko Station for an errand the other day and was curious about what kind of store it was, so I decided to drop by the store while I finished my errand. I had heard rumors that there was a high percentage of girls there, so I was a little defensive…
Fukiage no Mori Rokko is a cozier place than I expected…
I visited Fukiage no Mori Rokko at around 11:40 on a Saturday. The restaurant was located in the half-basement of a building, so it was a little difficult to find. There was a customer with a small child who arrived at the restaurant around the same time as I did.
But the semi-basement location made me feel very comfortable once I entered the restaurant. The restaurant seats 24 people at four counter seats and seven tables. The space between the seats is spacious, and the interior, with its abundant use of wood, is somewhat reminiscent of a Scandinavian-style café.
I was guided to a counter seat facing the window on the south side of the store, and since the store is below street level, I could not make eye contact with passersby. Normally, a window seat in a café is in full view of passersby, but since my line of sight is physically shifted, I don’t feel as if I am being stared at from the outside.
In addition, the seating area is not exposed to direct sunlight, but rather is half-underground, which limits the amount of sunlight to a moderate degree, ensuring both brightness and comfort. It is a hideaway, a dusty café with a bright and natural atmosphere…it was more comfortable than I had imagined.
Incidentally, although Fukiage-no-mori Rokko was rumored to have a high percentage of female customers, when I actually went there, I found that there were usually a few male customers there by themselves. It was not completely away from home like Cafe de Agenda in Motomachi, so men need not worry…
How was the lunch plate, limited to 15 servings a day, at Fukiage no Mori Rokko?
This time, I ordered a lunch plate (priced at 1,300 yen including tax), which was limited to 15 servings a day. It seems that the menu changes monthly, and the lunch menu as of a certain date in June when I visited the restaurant was…
The main dish was Fridge’s Keema Curry Gratin topped with hot egg, green salad, quiche, chicken and cucumber salad, and lassi. It looks healthy and will be popular among women……………………….
So, let’s try the main dish of curry gratin… First of all, the aroma of curry spices that wafted into my nose as soon as it entered my mouth was pleasant. The contents of the gratin are swirled pasta fridges, minced pork, and chopped onions, and the gurgling of the onions and minced meat and the plump texture of the fridges come at random, and you can enjoy the changing spice and juicy flavor of the meat with each bite.
Although the spiciness of the ingredients is quite strong, the cheese on the top of the dish helps reduce the spiciness and makes it much easier to eat. If this is not enough, you can make the taste milder by adding hot eggs, so even those who do not like spicy food can eat it easily.
The spicy gratin is contrasted by a quiche with sweet cream cheese, a spicy Chinese-style spicy Japanese dish, a fresh vegetable salad, and a lassi, so I think the volume is just right, especially for women. They say you can call in advance to reserve this lunch plate, so if you know you’re going to be using the restaurant, I recommend calling ahead of time. You can also check the monthly menu on the restaurant’s Instagram, so be sure to check that as well before visiting…
