Good Morning Cafe Nowadays

During my stay in Tokyo, I was looking for a place to have an early morning breakfast and found a cafe called Good Morning Cafe Nowadays near JR Sendagaya Station. The cafe opens from 7:00 am on weekdays, and I casually chose it because I thought it would be a good place for morning activities…but when I actually went there, I found the cafe in a very sophisticated residential area surrounded by Shinjuku Gyoen, Keio University Hospital, and the National Stadium. I was surprised to find that there is no other place like it in the whole of Japan. The café was in such a place that you would think, “There is no other place like this in the whole of Japan,” and it was totally different from the cafes in Kyoto and Osaka….

I visited Good Morning Cafe Nowadays at 7:00 a.m. on a weekday, right when the cafe opened. As one might expect, there was not a huge line of people waiting to get in, but there were several customers lined up in front of the store even before the opening time. However, when I think of early morning cafes in Osaka and Kyoto, I have an image of businessmen in suits with coffee in one hand and bread in the other, but there was no one like that on this day. All the customers were dressed in casual clothes and seemed to have a relaxed atmosphere.

According to the restaurant’s Tabelog, Good Morning Cafe Nawadays has a total of 60 seats. At a quick glance, though, it seems like there could be more seats. The casual seating area is spacious and relaxing, and there is also a terrace outside where you can spend your cafe time like in a TV drama on a nice day. Customers who come to such a restaurant from early in the morning may be a madam with a dog, or a “smart guy” looking guy with a laptop computer…yes, there were families with elementary school children. When I see such a scene, my reflex is to think, “Hey, where’s the school?” But I guess this must be the daily life of real Japanese high society people. I wish I could live like that someday…

Early bird gets the worm! Good Morning Cafe Nowadays’ breakfast menu, NOWADAYS MORNING PLATE, is a great value!

I ordered the NOWADAYS MORNING PLATE at Good Morning Cafe Nawadays, which can be ordered until 10:30 a.m. This plate allows you to customize your meat and egg dishes, with the meat dish being the standard bacon and the egg dish being upgraded to a double egg (price: plus 150 yen)…

Less than 10 minutes after ordering, the NOWADAYS MORNING PLATE arrived in front of me. The price is 1,300 yen on weekdays and 1,400 yen on weekends (tax included), but if you enter the restaurant before 8:00 a.m. on weekdays, the price is 1,100 yen, tax included, which is a very reasonable price.

Well, let’s just say that the taste is just as good as it looks, in a good way, or the quality will not disappoint you. Among them, I personally particularly liked this brioche. The butter and egg flavor was strong, the texture was fluffy and not runny like French toast, and the surface was browned and savory… I would pay extra for another piece of this brioche….

Also, the coffee and tea that come with this morning plate are free refills until 11:00 am. Isn’t the price of only 1,100 yen for such a morning meal too good to be true? If this kind of morning breakfast were available, I would probably stay until the end of the day and spend all morning working on my laptop with a cup of coffee in my hand. I wish there was a cafe like this near my house…it made me feel like that.
